New Updates Bring Stronger Broadcasting Performance and Easier Network Configuration

SAF Tehnika has released two updates addressing key challenges in broadcasting and high-availability microwave deployments – a new firmware for PhoeniX G2/G2+ radios improving ATSC 3.0 compatibility, and an expanded user manual for the Integra-X/-X2/FIDU/FIDU+ radios simplifying complex redundancy configurations.

PhoeniX G2/G2+

16x Larger Buffer for ATSC 3.0 Networks

The new firmware brings a significant buffer upgrade – increasing the shared internal Ethernet frame buffer from 32 KB to 512 KB, a 16x improvement. This gives PhoeniX G2 and G2+ IDUs the headroom needed to handle the highly bursty nature of ATSC 3.0 traffic without packet loss.

Previously, large traffic bursts could congest the radio's buffer even when the average bitrate was well within the link's capacity – a challenge further amplified during ACM-driven modulation downshifts. The enlarged buffer helps absorb short-term traffic bursts, reducing reliance on external traffic shaping in many scenarios and simplifying broadcast network design.

For a deeper technical look at managing ATSC 3.0 traffic with PhoeniX G2/G2+, including traffic shaping, QoS guidance, and real-world test results, refer to our whitepaper here.

Integra-X/-X2/FIDU/FIDU+

7 Practical Examples for Full Redundancy Configurations

The updated Integra series manual adds a dedicated chapter covering seven real-world protection and aggregation schemes – from 1+1 HSB and Space Diversity to XPIC full redundancy and 4+0 aggregation. Each example covers both FODU and FIDU platform variants, giving engineers a concrete reference point regardless of which Integra platform they are working with.

Each example includes connection schemes and step-by-step configuration guidance – with full redundancy setups covered in particular depth, giving Integra FIDU+ users a reliable reference for planning and deploying high-availability configurations.

Both the new firmware package and updated manual are available to registered users at support.saftehnika.com
